Was invited to attend a day of rowing and fun and BBQ in Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire on saturday the 5th of July. I would love to go, but right now I am in canada and to go back to Ireland and then get organised to go to Henley is probably a little too much. The party is being attended by Iggy O’ Muircheartaigh, president of NUI Galway. Iggy was my Maths lecturer back in the late 1980’s at UCG as it was known then. As far as I remember, his lectures were outstandingly good. He had this kind of interactive lecturing style that made it really interesting to turn up. I have been trying for a while now to give better lectures, find better ways of explaining Genetics. I am going to put a bit of pressure on myself this summer to do a better job on this front, so fingers crossed next years students get a course they enjoy. Might use this blog to make more information available. Have to think about this.
