Was in a shop this morning buying a cup of tea when the person at the next till had the following conversation with the person on the till:
Man: Do you have any Lemsip?
Girl at till wrinkles forehead.
Man: Lemsip? Do you have any Lemsip?
Girl (in eastern european lilt): What is?
Man: Do you have Lemsip?
Girl: Eyebrows furrowed
Man: Lemon-Sip?
Girl: Ah, yes. *Points to LemSip shelf*
Now that’s funny. LemonSip!
This encounter is the amusing side of being multicultural and the old saying that there was always an Irish solution to an Irish problem now seems to transcend the boundaries and there are instant, though sometimes slightly unusual, Irish solutions to international misunderstandings.
LemonSip. I love it.
