I see the BBC is listing a bunch of options for the EU after the Irish NO vote.  One of them, bizzarely is that the Irish would get additional opt-out protocols inserted in the treaty with guarantees on, among other things, abortion.

There was a cast-iron guarantee concerning article 40.3.3 written into Lisbon.  Are the BBC suggesting that some of the NO voters in Ireland still were under the impression that the treaty would introduce abortion to Ireland against the will of the people?

It is funny that the BBC is suggesting this as a possible future move.  It must mean that somebody somewhere reckons that some of the No voters voted no because they were still under the impression (despite the clarification from the Archbishop of Dublin) that this treaty was a mechanism for introduction of abortion.

One would like to think that people voted because they knew what they were voting for.  From my reading of the BBC, there is an impression among some that people were voting no and they didn’t know why they were voting no.

I wonder how true that is?  Comments welcome.
