Went to see Batman: The Dark Knight.  Overall, if you like this kind of thing, then you will not be disappointed.  It had great special effects, the story was pretty good, for a Batman story and  I don’t think anybody in the cinema was dissapointed with the film.  You need to be warned, there is quite a bit of violence and some blood and gore and other kinds of pretty good stuff.  It is noisy, dark, wierdly funny in parts and full of believable make-believe characters…if you know what I mean.

I do think it is reasonable to pick out Heath Ledger’s performance.  He definitely had the best part as the bad guy - I think the bad guy is usually the best part to play.  If you can scare our audience, then you’ve cracked it.  Also, bad guys get to have the scary music in the background and the part where you jump out of your seat.  Even so, I think Heath Ledger nailed the part and they weren’t talking complete nonsense when they said he was a candidate for an Oscar nomination.

The film was a butt-numbing 2.5 hours long and indeed, I had to leave to use the restroom half-way through (damn you, maker of seven-up), but nobody seemed to be massively put out by this.  Indeed, the majority of the cinema screens were showing Batman and I have spoken to a number of people that went to see it last night, so I guess it is the stand-out blockbuster of the summer.

So, in summary.  It’s long, dark, loud, gory in places, with good acting, a good script, good special effects and apart from the ending which I thought was a bit weak, it represents a good evenings entertainment.

Comments welcome.
