Well, there is still some smoke emanating from the canteen, but the fire is out, I think (current time: 2:30pm).  It started in the kitchen, but how it started is unknown to me right now.  There are two or three stories doing the rounds.  The canteen was being extended and there were builders in situ and that is oone rumour.  The other is that a fridge exploded.  These are both just rumours.

The fire was impressive.  At one stage, I saw 40-foot flames (I am assuming the roof is about 25 feet high and the flames were about 2/3 as high again.

The smoke was initially white, turning to grey and then to a very dark charcoal - I’m presuming this was fat burning.  The slates were popping as they cracked.

The building looks gutted.
