I know, I know it is getting a make over and they are building two new sheds beside the old shed where most of the airport is to be found. But hasn’t Dublin Airport been like this for more than a decade now?Yesterday was a farce. I arrived at the airport and tried to check in for my flight at 4:51. My flight was due to depart at 5:40 (44 minutes later). The system ‘locked’ just as I was about to check in and that was it!!I was not allowed to check in. The person before me was, the plane was still there, it was only a question of printing out the document, giving it to me and letting me go on my merry way. But, no. The new Aer Lingus needs to make more money, so they pull the old Ryanair stunt of earning a few bob more on every flight by refusing a few customers admission, charging them a ridiculous flight transfer fee and sending us on the next flight, having squeezed more money out of us.”Not my fault sir, it is all in the terms and conditions”. ”We must close the gate at some time, you know”. “I’m only doing my job”.Fine, I got up at 5am this morning and drove back to Dublin Airport and joined the billions and billions of other travellers that had turned up. Queued and queued for about 45 minutes in order to get through security. Then walked and walked and walked to get to section “A”.Got on the plane….And they took off 45minutes late. Can I fine them? Can I tell them they are being a bit naughty, they should have taken off 44 minutes ago and so they must pay a charge? Got to Duesseldorf. Quietness in the airport.Looked for the information desk. Asked them how I might get to Bochum. The lady looked at me in a slightly puzzled way and said “You only need to take the train, which is down the corridor and through the glass doors”. She seemed genuinely puzzled that I might think that getting to Bochum would be a bit difficult. She hadn’t been in Dublin airport twice in the previous 12 hours.
