The Lancet has come out today demanding that the Pope retract and/or correct his statement that the use of condoms does not result in a decrease in the incidence of HIV/Aids.
The Pope, last week, in blatant disregard for strong scientific evidence to the contrary, stated that the problem of HIV/Aids “cannot be overcome by the distribution of condoms; on the contrary, they increase it.”
There is no evidence to support this statement. In fact all the evidence points in the opposite direction. This is a pet hate of mine - the use of bias and prejudice to pretend something is true, when science will tell you that it is not.
Shame on the Pope.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI’m actually glad to see him called out so loudly on this issue. It i so annoying to see how much fawning the media performs whenever this celibate old man offers up his considered opinion on all things sexual.
A mystery indeed.
